NPR Paul Reubens interview (AKA Pee Wee Herman)

NPR interviewed Paul Reubens recently on their Fresh Air program. Here's their summary:

The complete 45-episode series of the TV show Pee-Wee's Playhouse is now out on DVD. Reubens originally created the Pee-Wee character at the Los Angeles improv group called The Groundlings. Pee-Wee's Playhouse went on the air in 1986. It ran on CBS for 5 years, garnering 22 Emmys.

Even though it's NPR there's still a KS or two.

this was an excellent interview. Many clips from the show. It can still be listened to by going to last week( or the week before?)link on Fresh Air site.

I listened to the interview, and was surprised that there was no mention of Paul's rendition of "The Girl on the Flying Trapeeze" from BIG TOP PEE-WEE. I was impressed with Paul's singing, and thought that a good role for him would be a down-and-out night club singer. In fact, I've noticed that he often wrote jokes with a sarcastic bite, which would be a good approach to writing a dark comedy.
