If you've been around to hear one of my technology rants within the past 3-5 years you've probably heard me complain about (or at least declare the suckiness of) any of the following technologies:

802.11

portable computing

trendy gadgets

LCD screens

handwriting recognition

speech recognition

Well I bought an Onyx DS Lite this past weekend which pretty much covers everything in that list. So far I just have Brain Age and New Super Mario Bros. Both games are sweet.

Damn Ralph hooked me on Cyber Nations. Like he says it's just as addicting as Real Thugz was, but there is much, much less time required. I only have to login once or twice a day to check up on it. The integration with google maps is kinda sweet. And it's interesting the roles that religion, government type, and resources have in the game. It was definitely well thought out and it looks like it is constantly being tweaked as well, so that's kinda sweet.

My nation is Super Happy Fun Land, my citizens don't seem to agree though. Those losers better shut up and get back to work, they'll pay their taxes and they'll like it. ;-) (Go Green Team!)

Update: I just realized that all of Cyber Nations website doesn't have a single banner - not even the forums - that's amazing.

Zelda Classic has the original NES Zelda quest, plus there are tons of user created quests. I've been playing Zelda's Quest for Link, it's pretty amazing. I can't believe the amount of time and detail that went into these.

Mario Forever is one of the best alternate quests for Mario that I've ever seen. My only complaint with it is that the physics are just slightly different than the NES versions of Mario 1 & 3, but hey it's free.

Also, since we're talking about sidescrollers, the best genre of games IMO, there is a sidescroller version of Halo (Halo Zero). It is kinda like an advanced version of Contra. It's pretty cool.

I just read this news about Doom (the movie). I can't imagine it being any good, but that probably won't stop me from seeing it. I always thought that Aliens was about as close of a Doom experience as you could get, so we'll see if they can top that. Hopefully it'll stick to the same plot of the video game.
