I've been using an experimental version of TheSHAD0W's BitTorrent client for awhile, but I switched back to the default BitTorrent client when the latest version came out. After getting sick of the stupid alerts that come up when you get server errors I found BitTornado 0.1.1 when trying to find TheSHAD0W's version. So far it's worked great and has a few minor improvements over previous versions of TheSHAD0W's client.

US jobs created from outsourcing?

Tom's Hard News: "104,000 jobs were relocated in 2003, but 90,000 were created as a result of outsourcing. This trend would continue and allow US companies to spend more money on US workers, the study says. Looking ahead, 317,000 new jobs would be created due to outsourcing." Of course, the study should probably be taken with a grain of salt: "The study was sponsored by the ITAA which represents more than 11,000 IT companies in the US, including corporations such as IBM, one vocal proponent of outsourcing." There's still a difference of 14,000 jobs. I'm kinda on the fence on the whole outsourcing thing. On one hand, I don't want to lose my job or have my pay cut, but on the other one I don't blame companies for hiring workers who'll work for cheaper - as long as they do the same quality of work. Customer service would be the last place I would outsource though. I can barely understand people with southern accents, how am I expected to understand people who speak english as their second language?

Nvu 0.2

Mozilla-based Nvu 0.2 is a web editor that I just came across. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like it might have a sweet feature or two. Most notably the ability to extract inline styles and export them to a single document. Considering the amount of junk HTML I've had handed to me lately, this might come in useful. Hopefully it's as easily extensible as FireFox is. It's originally made for the Lindows platform (ugh), but there are also test binaries available for Windows and Linux. I'll have to try it out and see how it performs - since it's a 0.2 test release, I don't expect it to work 100%.

Where does Adult Swim get its ironic and self-referential humor from?

From The Simpsons, of course! Here's a good quote: "The only thing that's keeping them from being a piece of art like `Don Quixote' or `A Midsummer Night's Dream' is a couple hundred years."

The Inquirer has a nice read about how Intel has been following AMD's lead over the past few years. It's amazing how a much smaller company can still come up with superior technology. I guess that explains why AMD's stock has grown significantly more than Intel over the past 5 years.

AOL still sux

I saw this reuters article on how AOL sees a future in web standards. At first I thought it might be cool... then I realized that it's AOL, and all they've done in the past with anything that they've come in contact with is virtually halt any technological progress whatsoever. You never know, maybe they'll open up AIM as a web service.
