Who the F still needs Gmail?

Does anyone out there still need a Gmail account? It seems like everyone and their brother has been getting 6 invites at a time. Post if you need one.

[EDIT]: I get 6 a day, post if you want one.

Time for STAAR! Here's a summary:

"A permanent, implantable contact lens that can dramatically improve vision in patients with severe nearsightedness is expected to receive FDA approval by the end of this year. [...] The lens was designed to remain in the eye permanently, but if a patients vision changes, the lens can either be removed and changed, or the patient can get regular corrective glasses, contact lenses or LASIK surgery. [...] The procedure is expected to cost up to 20 percent more than LASIK surgery, which runs about $1,000 per eye [in the US — it's much cheaper in Canada]."

I can't wait to tell Lenscrafters to suck it. I guess STAAR has some competition as well. AMO has some Verisyse technology which is similar. The differences being Verisyse has been around since the '70's, it's been performed on over 100,000 people, requires a larger incision, and takes about twice as long (15 minutes vs. 8 minutes).

Pop is bad

AMA Warns that Soda Pop is Major Health Hazard for Kids & Adults - "...Somebody who drinks one can a day could put on 15lb over a year..." Yikes. I think I'll stick to water, coffee, and beer.

Alienware Notebook for badass video editing

I came across this article that compares an Alienware Notebook against several top-of-the-line desktops. Of the five computers in the benchmark, it is the cheapest at a mere $3075. What is really surprising is that it beats out the Mac Dual G5 which has 2x the CPUs, 3x the RAM, and it costs over $1300 more than the Alienware's laptop! I remember a time when DV editing was one of Apple's strong-points but it get's smoked by the laptop in just about every area. They do still shine in the "starving artist" category where artists who use the Macs will be starving after coughing up all that dough and not being able to put out work faster.

Aluminum Bottles or Bottle Shaped Cans

Jon sent me a link to some Pittsburgh company that is making bottle-shaped aluminum beer containers. I guess they're more efficient and "unbreakable" but there's just something about that brushed-metal look that makes them even cooler.

The New Michael Jordan of Quake/Doom?

Tom's Hardware points out a bunch of cool shit at QuakeCon 2004. The Fatal1ty Quake 3 champion dude has not only his own booth babes, but Abit has licensed the Fatal1ty name for a line of products - basically the Air Jordans of the computing world. There was a shootout against him that sounds like it was a pretty awesome deathmatch. The winner, Daler, got a bunch of stuff. Then they had some crazy Quake 3 and Doom 3 double-elimination tournaments with prizes of $25K, $15K, and $12K for the top three in each one. It sounds like it was pretty cool.
