I just caught this article on Wired about how a monkey with a robotic arm was able to use the arm to feed itself. The first thing that popped into my mind was Hedonism-Bot from Futurama:

The second thing that popped into my head was how this race of killer robot monkeys will one day take over the planet. Of course we all know that would take an awful lot of cigarettes and coffee. And I'd like to see those damn robo-monkeys forking over $6 for a pack of Marbs - it'll never happen I tells ya!

Ananova Quirkies reports that a Romanian couple whose baby was born in their car as they sped to the emergency room are going to name him Speedy Gonzales. I guess the car had broken down on the way, and after fixing it the baby was born at 90kmh. The baby's first words? "¡Andale! ¡Andale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba! ¡Yii-hah!"

I just read this news about Doom (the movie). I can't imagine it being any good, but that probably won't stop me from seeing it. I always thought that Aliens was about as close of a Doom experience as you could get, so we'll see if they can top that. Hopefully it'll stick to the same plot of the video game.

Slashdot has a post about "America's Most Connected Campuses". #1 is in Upstate NY, 5 out of the top 20 are in NY and 4 of those are in Upstate NY. On an educational note, I'd like to tell SoCal and SiliValley to "suck it" - but on an economical note, I now understand why the IT market in this area is so flooded, and why my salary (according to all those depressing surveys) is well below the national average for what I do.

I can't wait, $13K brand new, and it gets 70mpg. Not to mention the other sweet features. Wired and Gizmodo have write-ups, and Smart's site is pretty decent, but their fluffy US site could use some work. Of course in order to import their cars into the US, they had to make an SUV version (according to unwritten law).

BrandLogic won an award for the new SJU site recently. It showed up on Yahoo News (RSS) and Google News (RSS). Of all the sites that I've worked on in the past 5 years, I think that SJU's site turned out the best. Not to mention its XHTML and CSS validity. Well mostly valid. There are still many pieces of content which aren't, and the damn ASP.Net Calendar control, and probably a few pieces of our own code that squeaked through unnoticed.
